RL Comes Rushing In

posted by Scott Hsu-Storaker at 5:16 PM

Countdown to Babyville: 28 days. Or less. Maybe even much less. I knew from day one of this blog that the day would come that I would be less available for a while and I hope I have prepared all of you regular readers for this site to go dim (but not go dark). Baby will be here soon. He's not here yet, but if my wife's trip to the hospital this week and doctor's orders to take it easy are any indication, that day is coming up fast. So, if you don't hear from me for a while, I'll be busy getting ready for the baby or taking care of the baby or trying to catch a few minutes of sleep. It doesn't mean that the real work going on behind the scenes at the coop has slowed down. On the contrary, the past two weeks on the dev forums have been rockin'. Really some beautiful, amazing work by everyone on the team. Hopefully I can slowly catch up and post screenshots here and update the download files before too long.

In due time.

Morning Polyhacker -- Apr 19

posted by Scott Hsu-Storaker at 1:06 AM

Here's a few from around the forums last week. My baby is due to arrive in less than six weeks and I am really starting to focus in on finishing up the Gilman Street project. There are 40 assets in the queue for that pack and 11 of them are textured up and either exported or ready to export. I want to be up to 25 by the time the baby arrives. I know this ends up pushing back progress on all the other projects I am working on as a texturist. But, I'm just gonna have to allow myself to accept that. I feel that the one big thing that will take this endeavour to the next level is to have something complete. So, I'll jump in and out of other things occasionally, but my main focus through the interregnum when I will be living in babyville will be on finishing up our urban pack, which I am stubbornly insisting will be done by August 12th. Here's the latest.

Thousander Club Update -- Apr. 17

posted by Scott Hsu-Storaker at 11:33 PM

I'm a little early this week, so I have no new numbers from anyone else, just me.

Casey Dunham's hours (4/3) -- 18
GBGames' hours (4/10) -- 63.5
GBGames' game ideas (4/10)-- 221
I'll do it on monday's hours (3/20) -- 133
Scott's 1000 hours (4/16) -- 129
1000 models -- 144-ish
1000 downloads -- 1035 (Hey, hey, hey)

All right, two of the goals for the thousander club have now been met. With over 100 downloads of our files this week we have easily surpassed the thousand downloads mark in just over 3 months. You may recall that we also passed the thousand visitors per month mark at the end of January -- this month we are closing in on almost double that. Thank you again to everyone for all your enthusiasm and encouragement. It would tickle me to keep that positive vibe going through the time when I will be less available for the next few months.

Morning Polyhacker -- Apr 12

posted by Scott Hsu-Storaker at 1:00 AM

I am going to be switching over from doing my weekly grab bag of various topics and just posting short messages whenever we have something new to show off. So, bye bye to the Monday Morning Polyhacker for a while and welcome to the Morning Polyhacker. Here is something I have been working on this week.

Stuck deep in texturing. Got any texturing tips or tuts? Then send it along to me -- I'll post a roundup of good ones.

Thousander Club Update -- Apr. 11

posted by Scott Hsu-Storaker at 10:03 AM

A small update, considering the fact that I did my update late last week. This was my best week in over a month, woohoo.

Casey Dunham's hours (4/3) -- 18
GBGames' hours (4/10) -- 63.5
GBGames' game ideas (4/10)-- 221
I'll do it on monday's hours (3/20) -- 133
Scott's 1000 hours (4/10) -- 120
1000 models -- 143 (I think I've lost track, though)
1000 downloads -- 932 (Uh-oh, it could tip in the next week)

Send screenshots all you 932-downloads developers. It's not required but it makes my day.

Sometime This Week Polyhacker

posted by Scott Hsu-Storaker at 5:59 PM

Twilight and Fugue
I recently started thinking about my lack of sleep and how much of a challenge it is to find quality time to work on art. What got me going was reading Noah Dyer's bravely insane public attempt at polyphasic sleep. I have effectively switched my schedule over to a semi-early bird schedule. I wake up, usually without an alarm, an hour or more early than I used to. The only problem is that I still find I want to stay up late to work. I can't hang much past 1 am like I did a couple months ago, but even so, falling asleep has become a strangely different experience. I no longer cross over to unconciousness easily. I often drift into a wierd twilight stage. A kind of fugue state. I am awake, I know I am awake, but I am completely unable to do anything. I can't move... well, I'm not paralyzed, but the urge to remain in a resting position is overwhelming. I can stay that way for up to an hour. I often drift off to what I consider sleep and then return to this phase. Very, very odd. Late night now has become a thoroughly unproductive time. Dangit!

Tick, Tock, D'oh
8 weeks and counting to Babyville. Productive art and writing time is slipping away -- I will be back in full force at some point though. The coming period will be a true test of my philosophies on maintaining a vital virtual team, with me being less involved for a couple of months.

A Small Roundup
Khaine has been busy, back on modeling stuff. I've been stuck on one texture all week. Here are a few to show off, though.
